Tired of doing this by hand?

Timesheet tracks your hours automatically across iOS, Android, and the web, and turns them into invoices, exports, and reports. Free plan, no credit card required.

Why this matters

Payroll and accounting software almost always expects time entries in decimal hours. If your tracking system gives you "7h 45m" but your invoice template needs "7.75", you have to convert. This calculator does it both ways instantly.

Common conversions

15 minutes = 0.25 hours. 30 minutes = 0.50 hours. 45 minutes = 0.75 hours. For minutes that don't round cleanly, divide the minute value by 60.

Skip conversions entirely

Timesheet exports your entries in both formats out of the box. CSV exports include both hh:mm and decimal columns so your payroll provider or accountant can use whichever they prefer without manual conversion.

Frequently asked questions

Why do payroll systems use decimal hours?
Multiplying hours by an hourly rate is much easier with decimals. 7.75 × $25 is straightforward; 7h 45m × $25 requires a conversion first. Most payroll exports expect decimals.
How do I convert minutes to decimal?
Divide the minutes by 60. So 30 minutes = 0.50, 45 minutes = 0.75, 15 minutes = 0.25. Add the result to your whole hours.
How do I convert decimal hours back to minutes?
Multiply the decimal part by 60. So 7.25 hours = 7 hours and 0.25 × 60 = 15 minutes, giving you 7h 15m.
Are conversions rounded?
Decimal results are shown to two decimal places, which is precise enough for almost all payroll use cases.
