What this calculator does

Pick a start time and an end time. The calculator returns the duration in hours and minutes, decimal hours for payroll, and total minutes. If you took a break, enter the break length in minutes and it will be subtracted from the duration.

Cross-midnight shifts

Night shifts work fine: 22:00 to 06:00 is recognised as 8 hours, not as a negative number. The calculator adds 24 hours whenever the end time falls before the start time.

From one shift to a full week

If you need to calculate hours for several days at once, use our Time Card Calculator. For continuous tracking with start, stop, breaks, projects, and exports, the Timesheet app handles it all in the background.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate hours between two times?
Subtract the start time from the end time. The calculator does this for you in seconds and also subtracts any break minutes you enter.
Does it handle times that cross midnight?
Yes. If the end time is before the start time, the calculator assumes the shift crossed midnight and adds 24 hours automatically.
What format are the results in?
You get the duration in hours-and-minutes, as decimal hours (for payroll), and as total minutes.
Do you store my times?
No. The calculator runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server or saved anywhere.
