In short

How do I keep track of my work hours?

Start a timer when you begin work, pause it for breaks and stop it when you finish, or add the hours afterwards. Timesheet saves each working day with its start, end and breaks and totals the hours by day, week and month. It is free on iPhone and Android. If you clock in for an employer, the time card app page shows the punch clock side.

Track work hours as they happen, or add them later

Tap Start when work begins, Pause for lunch and Stop at the end of the day. Each entry is saved with its start and end time, so you can see when you worked, not only how long.

Forgot to start the timer? Add the entry afterwards or correct the times. The app works offline, so hours tracked without a signal are saved on the phone.

See your hours by day, week and month

Timesheet adds up your working time for the day, the week and the month, with breaks kept apart from work. There is nothing to total by hand, although the hours calculator is there if you want to check a single day.

Statistics chart your working hours over time and show how they split across projects.

Projects

Keep the hours apart by job, client or employer. Projects are unlimited on the free plan.

Breaks

Pause the timer or add a break afterwards. On Android, a break can be added automatically after a set working time.

Hourly rates

Give a project an hourly rate and see what the hours are worth next to the time.

Notes and tags

Add a note or a tag to an entry so you remember what the time was for.

Install it, tap Start, and your first working day is on record. No credit card needed.

The app is free. Team features and the web app come with a 30-day free trial, no credit card required.

Let the tracker start by itself

The hours people lose are the ones they forget to log. Timesheet can start and stop the timer for you, on the free plan:

Timesheet automation settings with geofence, Wi-Fi and NFC rules that start and stop the timer

Geofence

The timer starts when you arrive at work and stops when you leave. On iPhone and Android.

Work Wi-Fi (Android)

On Android, joining the work Wi-Fi can start the timer. iPhone does not allow this.

NFC tag

Hold your phone to a tag on your desk or by the door to start or stop. See the NFC tag guide.

Smartwatch

Start, pause and stop from your Apple Watch or Wear OS watch, paired with your phone.

Send your hours wherever they are needed

Export your hours to Excel or CSV straight from the phone, on the free plan too. Choose the date range and the fields, then send the file to your employer, your client or yourself.

Timer rounding is optional: 5, 6, 10, 15, 30 or 60 minutes. The rounded time is what gets saved. With Pro, the web app adds PDF timesheets, reports and invoices, so freelancers can bill the hours they tracked. To price extra hours, try the overtime calculator.

On your phone, your watch and the web

On the free Basic plan your hours stay on one phone. Plus ($5 a month) syncs them across your devices and keeps a cloud backup. Pro ($10 a month) adds the web app, so you can track and edit hours in the browser as well.

If your whole team should track hours, the employee time tracking app page shows what managers see.

What this work hours tracker does not do

Better to know before you install it:

No overtime balance on the free plan
The app totals your hours, but it does not compare them with a contract. Overtime, flextime and leave balances are part of the Business plan for companies.
One phone on the free plan
Without Plus or higher there is no sync between devices. Your hours stay on the phone, with automatic local backups.
No location tracking during work
A geofence only starts and stops the timer. If you turn on location stamps, the app saves where a working day starts and ends, and nothing in between.
Wi-Fi start is Android only
iPhone does not let apps react to Wi-Fi networks. Use a geofence or an NFC tag there.

Tracking your own hours is free. You pay only for sync, the web app or a team.
