monday.com is where the team plans the work. Timesheet is where the hours get tracked, with timers on iOS, Android, the web, and the browser extension. Connect the two and every finished entry appears on the board, under the item it belongs to, with its start and end time.
Tracked time on the board
Each Timesheet project syncs with a monday.com board. Todos become items on that board, and every time entry you track becomes a subitem underneath its item, named after the entry's description.
That puts the actual work right where your team plans it. Open an item and you see each session with its start and end. Map your team members and each subitem also shows who tracked it.
Billable status, tags, and notes stay in Timesheet, where reports, billing rates, invoices, and exports use them across all your projects.
What syncs
Timesheet to monday.com
- New todos become items on the mapped board, with the due date in the Timesheet End column
- Completing a todo sets the item's Status to Done, and deleting a todo deletes the item
- Each tracked entry becomes a subitem under its todo's item, or an item of its own when it has no todo
- Start and end go into date columns, and for mapped team members, the person goes into a person column
- Edits and deletes are sent automatically; a running timer syncs once you stop it
monday.com to Timesheet
- Select Sync Now to send existing todos and entries to the board and bring board items in as todos you can track against
monday.com changes reach Timesheet when you select Sync Now, not on their own.
Columns it adds
The integration prepares the board for you. When they are missing, it adds a Subitems column and Timesheet Start and Timesheet End date columns. If the board has no person column yet, it adds a Timesheet User column; otherwise it uses the first existing one.
Existing columns are not renamed or removed. The integration fills in the Status column and the person column it uses.
Before you start
- A monday.com account with permission to edit the boards you want to sync, since columns get added.
- A Done label in each board's Status column, so completed todos can be marked.
- A Timesheet Pro plan or above. The 30-day trial includes it. See plans and pricing.
Connect it
In the Timesheet web app, open Integrations, select Browse Marketplace, and install monday.com. Select Connect, sign in to monday.com, and authorize access. The connection uses OAuth, so Timesheet never sees your monday.com password.
Then map your projects. On the Mappings tab, pick a board for each Timesheet project; boards appear with their workspace. Only mapped projects sync, so you can start with one team and add more later. Map your team members as well to see who tracked each entry.
In the settings, the Item Name Template decides how subitems are named when an entry has no description, with placeholders for the date and the start and end time (in UTC).
Choose your direction
The Sync Direction setting offers three options:
- bidirectional sends todos and time to monday.com and brings board items in with Sync Now.
- timesheet-to-monday only writes to the board and ignores changes made there.
- monday-to-timesheet brings items in to track against. It writes nothing back, apart from adding its columns to the board.
Good to know
- Reopening a todo does not change the item's Status back from Done.
- Entries reach the board once they have an end time, so a running timer appears as soon as you stop it.
- Subitem boards cannot be picked as targets; choose the main board and the subitems follow.
